Soldier killed in Yala clash with LTTE

One soldier was killed during a clash with a group of LTTE cadres in the Handunnoruwela area in Yala on Friday evening round 5.00p.m, Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.

A group of soldiers had been on patrol when the LTTE men had opened fire on them .Troops had returned fire forcing them to flee, he said.

One soldier who was inured in the fighting later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Meanwhile, in Anadamkulam in Mullaithivu, security forces recovered 115 anti personnel mines, 650 T 56 bullet rounds and six small bombs.

One soldier was killed and 9 injured in this incident while two LTTE bodies were also recovered. .
