President’s Secretary to retire end-2008

Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga is expected to relinquish his position at the end of the year when he reaches the retirement age of 60 years, reliable government sources said on Wednesday.

While his term can be extended by the President under a contract formula that is available, the sources said Mr Weeratunga is unlikely to accept any extention. The President’s Secretary is a senior civil servant and has served extensively in the public service. .
