Two injured, Seven vehicles damaged in Explosion at Pettah

At least two persons were injured and seven vehicles damaged in an explosion close to the Khan clock tower on the Malwatta street, Pettah, Police said.

The explosion has taken place close to a van which was parked in a parking area

At least three vans, three cars, a lorry and a motorcycle are among the vehicles damaged.

However no serious casualties were reported immediately. One of them injured was a woman who has suffered minor injuries.

Police initially said the bomb was believed to have been set in a vehicle, but eyewitnesses said it appeared that the bomb was close to a van.

The Malwatta street has been temporarily closed.

Military spokesman Brigadier, Udaya Nanayakkara blamed the LTTE for the incident.
