2008-10-02 11:30:42

Sri Lankan shares starting at a brisk pace on Thursday saw 73 stocks picking up in price from the 98 that traded in the morning, while 14 companies saw their share prices down.

“The turnover is also on the rise today and there is a strong positive sentiment with high retail activity,” a stock analyst said. He said the U.S. Senate's bailout package to rescue the U.S. financial system has created a positive spin in the market after weeks of wait-and-see approaches by many investors.

The All Share Index gained 5.94 points to 2,148.20 while the Milanka was up by 8.42 points to 2,405.61 during early trades. The turnover was Rs 24 million.
