Global hotelier Hyatt has once again expressed confidence in Sri Lanka – amidst the gloom and doom scenario being painted about the conflict and depressing leisure market – and this week said the Colombo Hyatt hotel was on track and scheduled to be opened in two years – 2010.

This expression of confidence was made by Malcolm Turner, Vice President – Hyatt International Technical Services Inc, who was in Colombo to review the progress of Hyatt Regency Colombo. Ceylinco Homes International is the developers of Celestial Residencies and the Hyatt Regency Colombo – all in the same building just opposite the Cinnamon Grand.

According to a statement to the media, Mr. Turner said, “we have a great amount of confidence in Sri Lanka as an island and Colombo as a city, because of its people, the culture and the history is so perfect for this hotel to be one of the rising stars in this part of the world and we believe by the time the Hyatt Regency Colombo opens to the public, the city and the country will be ripe and ready for one of the best hotels in South Asia”.

The Hyatt Regency Colombo is made up of King rooms, Twin rooms, Junior suites, Executive suites and Presidential suites and will also include an exclusive Regency Club floor. Mr. Turner said the Colombo Hyatt’s grand ballroom which opens out to the sea and sky will host over a 1000 guests. It’s designed by the interior and restaurant specialists Bilkey Llineas.
