Georgian troops driven out of S.Ossetian capital
Russia said it had driven Georgian forces from the capital of South Ossetia today as part of an operation to force Georgia to accept peace in its breakaway region. Russian warplanes widened the offensive outside the immediate conflict zone to include strikes deep inside Georgia on the second day of fighting that threatens international oil and gas pipelines that bypass Russia.
Pakistan parliament to start Musharraf impeachment, say officials
Pakistan's national assembly or lower house of parliament will meet next week to formally set into motion the process to impeach President Pervez Musharraf, officials said today. Ruling coalition leaders Asif Ali Zardari -- the widower of slain former premier Benazir Bhutto -- and Nawaz Sharif announced on Thursday that they would seek Musharraf's impeachment for allegedly mismanaging the country.
