King Buwanekabahu III - Mahavamsa
In the letters dispatched by King Buwanekabahu, he has mentioned that his kingdom is rich in pearls as well. He further added that he owns a number of ships. The king would have given these details to the Arabs, with the intention of building up friendly relations with them. Scholars are of the opinion that the king intended to win sea-power of the Arabs to his side, as the Malay kingdom too had a strong sea-power.
