Fox on MTV

Fox News, which belongs to international media giant News Corp has entered into a strategic tie up with MTV/MBC Channels Pvt Ltd., in a landmark deal reached between the two companies last week.

Most significant in this is partnership is the fact that Fox has virtually no presence in the region, by choice. Janet Alshouse, Senior VP-International Distribution, for Fox News visited the island recently to solidify the agreement. Alshouse, with vast experience in the news media met with the MTV/MBC senior management this week in order to conclude the formalities. As part of the agreement, Channel One MTV- the companies flagship English channel, would telecast FOX News live on a co-sharing basis. This is the first co-sharing agreement FOX News has entered into, in its history. Starting off with a few hours a day, the Fox News presence on the channel is set to increase within the year.

FOX News, owned and operated by media magnate Rupert Murdoch leads the intense ratings war in the US. Fox recently launched FBN (Fox Business News), which has given business news reporting worldwide an interesting spin, the way only Fox can. Rival business networks such as CNBC have been hard pressed to respond to the completely unconventional manner in which FBN has hit its viewership, prompting an industry-wide rethink at how business news is presented.
