Peterites clinch Basketball C’ship

Under 19 Division Basketball Champions – 2008

St. Peter's College emerged champions in the U-19 All Island Inter-Schools Boys' Basketball Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Basketball Association. This was a notable achievement because Peterites U-19 team took the championship trophy after 20 long years. This year 16 schools participated in the Tournament.

On their way Peterites lost to De Mazenod 63 points to 62 in their very first match. In the second match against the Thomians Peterites dominated the game scoring 65 points to 43. Peterites beat Azhar College Kandy comfortably scoring a place in the quarter finals registering 63 points to 38.

Facing St. Sebastian's College in the quarter finals Peterites affirmed their superiority by amassing a point tally of 67 to 45. The semi-finals again was a Peterites game. Playing the semis against St. Anne's College Kurunegala Peterites registered a score of 79 to 59. Ironically Peterites in the finals had to play against De Mazenod Kandana to whom in the first match which was touch and go they lost. In the finals it was a different story. Peterites U -19 Basketball players turned the tables up side down to beat De Mazenod College Kandana registering a point tally of 65 points to 49.

Shenal Dias of St. Peter's was adjudged the Best player of the Tournament. Aaron Gomez of St. Peter's College was adjudged the Best offensive player. St. Peter's College, became Under 16 All Island Badminton Champions 2008 by beating St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa, in the finals which was held at St. Thomas' College, Bandarawela from 24th to 27th of April.
