Thank you for your unconditional love

Premnath Moraes

Thaththa – 10 years on and we continue to feel a void that can never be filled, an emptiness so deep it cannot be comprehended. You have left a legacy that can never be emulated, and dreams that we don’t have the vision for.

Still, your life continues to be an inspiration to me. I wish I had even a part of the courage you displayed throughout your life. Attempting to recall and record all that you achieved, and the influence you had on the lives of so many, is a daunting task. But this is not about what you did in your professional life; rather what you meant to me. The code of conduct you impressed on me, your sense of ethics and your faith in your fellow human beings was truly inspiring.

You had the ability to gloss over imperfections and see the true worth in a person, and this was particularly true in my case. I was never a high achiever, but you made no comparisons and gave me no lectures. You also taught me not to take myself too seriously. Your belief in me saw me through.

Your unconditional love, faith and pride made me realize (and now more than ever) how much you meant to me, how much you defined me, and how much you continue to give me strength.

More important than all you achieved as an actor, film director and journalist, here and overseas, and your uncompromising integrity and ethics and the respect of your peers, is your love for me as a father.
