The need to act unilaterally

In these “conform or dare-and-be-damned” days, it is reassuring to know that there are some people left who are ready to expose the truth. I refer to the well thought-out point of view titled “Nothing can justify war, nothing”, by Denzil J. Gunaratne, published in The Sunday Times of May 4.

The war is due to end soon. The terrorists, along with their leader, will be wiped out; hundreds of soldiers and many more Tigers would have been killed, thousands would have been maimed and left helpless and dependent on others for the rest of their lives, and the scorched earth would have displaced thousands.

The end result would be a subdued race with hurt feelings and an economy in shambles. In such a scenario, how can a negotiated settlement be achieved? With whom can negotiations be carried out?

The government must act unilaterally and take immediate proactive action in order to hopefully avoid further deaths and destruction.
