A bridge too short?

By L.B.Senaratne

The overhead bridge for pedestrians now being constructed over the railway line near the Courts Complex would have to be dismantled when the planned additional railway track is constructed. The bridge is being constructed over the railway line near the Courts Complex as a number of people have been run over by trains while crossing the rail track.

However, according to Railways and Transport Minister Dulles Alahapperuma, an additional railway track is to be laid from Peradeniya to Kandy. This would mean the overhead bridge would have to be dismantled as the bridge now being built does not appear to be sufficiently long to go over two railway tracks.

It appears there has been no coordination between the Road Development Authority and the Railway Department. The photograph shows the overhead bridge under construction.
