Mowjood breaks the shackles

Bata-The Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year Contests

After being the second best since count No 2, the Royal Collage allrounder Haroon Mowjood finally has broken the shackles and taken the first spot – a position which Milan Fernando of S. Thomas College, held on to for the seven initial weeks. Mowjood not only took the first place, but he is perched on 7326 votes against his name with a healthy 266 vote lead.

Besides Mowjood, Anandian Udara Peiris and Naveen Kavikara of D.S. Senanayake Vidyalaya have shown progress in the eighth count.

In the Outstation Contest Tissa MMV’s Dinesh Chathuranga has become the first to top the four figures with 1366 votes against his name while Palian Ishan Thilina Athureliya is only three votes away from that magical mark. The tussle between Malith Silva of Gateway International and Aadhil Bakeer Markar of Asian International is also hotting up. At the end of this count, Silva is only sixty six votes behind the leader and it seems he is rather reluctant to give up.
