Flanker Hakel stars in Joes win

St Joseph’s recorded their second win of the Singer Division 1B inter-school rugby tournament when they beat Wesley by 22 points to 10 having led 17-10 at the breather in their match played at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

The Josephians accumulated their points through a goal and three tries while the Wesleyites got their points from a goal and a penalty. It was Wesley who made the first move through a try from centre Ashwin Omar which was converted by full back Dulanjana Perera. Wesley increased the lead by a penalty booted over by Dulanjana.

From there on Josephian flanker Dananjaya Silva gave his supporters something to shout when he went over for a try with centre Dilshan Dev Anand adding the extra points. This followed by an unconverted try from flanker Adrian Hakel who went over for his second try of the match which also went unconverted.

The second half saw Joes scoring on two occasions which both conversions going astray. The first one was by in form winger Naveen Abeyratne increasing the Joes lead and then centre Dilshan Dev Anand sealed the game for the Joes before referee A.C. Tennekoon blew the long whistle.- MSA
