Lite flashes it back

Jump into the Wayback Machine and return to the 70's and 80's with the 14th annual Lite89.2 Flashback Show. The event is one of TNL Radio Network's most successful event brands, conceptualised and managed in-house. Featuring some of Sri Lanka's best retro DJs; Wendell, Bunty and Ben. It is an event that should not be missed.

It all began with one goal… one dream… and one station. Sri Lanka's best retro sensation, Wendell hosted a series of Lite89.2 Flashback Shows on radio before it became an event of its own, now after a break of a couple of years, The Lite89.2 Flashback Show is back. You can listen to Wendell every Saturday night, spinning the best retro hits you can ever hope to hear on the airwaves.

Whether you admit it or not, music embeds our daily life, weaving its beauty and emotion through our thoughts, activities and memories. Last year The Lite89.2 Flashback Show created ground breaking history with a massive crowd and high-quality music of the 70's and 80's.

The event was compeered by Lite's very own ‘Friend on radio,’ sassy Minuka who also hosts Total Control on weekdays on Lite89.2. And yes, Wendell was there working his magic on the consoles, spinning away great retro hits. There were many competitions on that colorful evening, some of which consisted of ‘Best Retro Costume,’ ‘Best Afro Hair’ and ‘Best Dressed Man & Woman.’ The sponsors were daring enough to test their brands on the night as well. One particularly interesting competition was when six individuals had to drink one bottle of Coke each, without the use of their hands.

Last year's Flashback Show's décor was centred around the theme ‘Flower Power.’ The venue was colour-washed with exuberant, brazen and fluffy Austin Powers like flora. This year expect the unexpected as Club Nuovo (former MKOP) will be transformed into a retro stage. As always Lite 89.2 will bring in the ambience that it is renowned for.

Schweppes which is under Coca Cola beverages Sri Lanka will be sponsoring the much anticipated event and ladies you get in free!

As for the music, The Lite89.2 Flashback Show highlights the era of peace, love, long hair, bell bottoms, disco balls and non-stop partying. The music seeps power, individuality and stands for what is true. The show will give the present generation a chance to experience the vision and eccentricity of those times. Expect the hip and brazen artists, from the groovy sounds of Hot Chocolate to the king of pop Michael Jackson. Back in the day music fans of the early 70's and 80's looking for a throwback, nostalgic pure pop experience generally had little option but to dig up older relatives' British Invasion records from 15 or 20 years prior. However, it will not be the case this year due to the mere fact that this year's Lite89.2 Flashback Show will definitely create that ‘ripple’ effect.

On May 10, 2008, sit back and enjoy the ride as Wendell brings you a Flashback Show that you will never forget. Scheduled to kick off from around 9.30pm, the show is bound to bring the best that Colombo's best retro DJ's have to offer, as they support Wendell's magical spin into the best of yesterday's hits.

Attended by the young and the young at heart, the unvoiced and the extravagant, the dance floor will positively spill over with people reminiscing to the songs of yesteryear. The flashback show will beyond doubt magnetize the best of Sri Lanka's finest. Combining a sense of seventh heaven with the best of music enveloped by the aura of Lite89.2's “music to suite your every mood,” it'll be one awesome journey you take.

The Flashback Show will be flooded with a highly engaging and relaxed gathering of consumers who can connect in a manner that will leave a lasting impression. So buckle up, sit back and enjoy the ride. In the words of T.S. Eliot “You are the music while the music lasts.”
