Ritchie takes handsome Hitachi trophy

Stewart Ritchie continues his stunning form and on the last outing sponsored by Singer Lanka Ltd for the Hitachi Trophy he cracked a one over parr nett 72 to embrace the gleaming plum depriving Sheron Fernando of the signal honour after a comparable classy knock to end on the same score. The awards were extravagant typical of Hemaka Amarasuriya's lavishness. Near 200 crashed the course with almost 50% being absolutely cruel to the turf.

"B" Division
Off 14 Handicap Harin Udeshi is a tough contender. He is accurate and on the greens wins the battle with his confidence. He was in great form to snatch nett 67 and a Singer Hitachi Trophy. Sushil Kumar a much improved player shows excellent signs of promise. He shot a good 69 to take 2nd position.

Brilliant Ratnayake
A raw rookie Anura Ratnayake was outstanding with the lowest gross score 63 nett for the day. A tremendous performance considering that he was competing against almost a double century of players. Errol Weerasinghe a steadily improving stroke player was all smiles after an encouraging round of nett 67.

Seniors
General Rohan Daluwatte was almost in full command through the forenoon until looseness filtered into distract his balance. However, his nett 67 was adequate to beat stylist Shirley de Silva by one stroke.

Masters
Another rookie Vitus Fernando came pretty good with an excellent nett 67. He beamed through lunch time and knocked down a few at the 19th.

Handicaps
There are far too many single handicappers masquerading behind false handicaps. Several of these need to have their handicaps doubled considering that what they collect at each outing are quite embarrassing.
