Prasad Samarasinghe, new MD of Lanka Bell

Lanka Bell this week announced the appointment of Prasad Samarasinghe as Managing Director of the company with effect from April 7. Suren Goonewardene, the former MD, has resigned on personal grounds, the company said.

Samarasinghe has been a Director of Lanka Bell since 2005. He possesses a BSc (Hons) and a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Electronics and Telecommunications from the University of Moratuwa and was formerly the Chief Operating Officer (Support Services) of Sri Lanka Insurance and Head of IT at Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC. He has over ten years of experience in the IT and communications industries and is also a Director of e-Channeling Ltd.

Announcing his appointment as Managing Director, the company said Samarasinghe will spearhead the technical operations of Lanka Bell together with all other operational and administrative areas.

Commenting on his new role at the helm of the country’s second largest ‘fixed-line’ service provider, Samarasinghe said: “Sri Lanka’s telecommunications industry is in an exciting phase of growth and evolution. With the convergence of communications, IT and entertainment, the functional possibilities seem endless, and I look forward to the challenge of keeping Lanka Bell abreast of all the new developments and ahead of the competition.”
