Lankaputhra Development Bank looking at more branches

The Lankaputhra Development Bank plans to open branches in Wennappuwa, Tangalle and Moneragala shortly, the bank said. Recently the Kandy branch of the bank was opened by the Minister of Finance and State Revenue and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.

Branches have already been established – in addition to Colombo -- in Hambantota, Polonnaruwa and Kegalle. The bank said in a statement that it has arranged to offer token gifts to its customers who opens accounts within the first two weeks. “The large number of accounts opened on the first day of operation was a marked achievement for the Lankaputhra Development Bank,” it said.

Expressing his views at the inauguration of the new Kandy branch, the Minister said that small and medium entrepreneurs should not be forgotten in the government’s journey towards the development and as a government, it is always committed to give the fullest cooperation to small and medium scale entrepreneurs.

The bank has many projects for the improvement of small and medium scale entrepreneurs. “Krushi Navodaya”, Mahaweli Loan Scheme and Footwear Manufacturers Loan Scheme are some projects among them.
