Sri Lanka at prestigious PATA CEO Challenge

Sri Lanka will be showcased at the upcoming PATA CEO Challenge Programme to be held in Bangkok from 28-30th April 2008. The theme will be ‘Confronting Climate Change’, and industry leaders and select CEOs from the region will be sharing their best practices, at interactive discussions of boardroom challenges related to climate change.

Renton de Alwis – Chairman, Sri Lanka Tourism will be speaking on Sri Lanka’s ‘Earth Lung’ initiative as one of the key note speaker. Some of the other speakers are Ms Jane Ashton, Head of Sustainable Development, TUI Travel, Mr Edwin Fuller, President and Managing Director, Marriott Lodging International, Ho Kwon Ping, Executive Chairman, Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts.

Subsequently, Renton de Alwis will be a panelist at the breakout sessions on boardroom challenges to discuss Destination Challenges. Srilal Miththapala, Chief Executive Officer of Serendib Leisure Management Ltd will be one of the CEO participants in the breakout interactive discussions of board challenges, in the category of Regional Hotels and Resorts Challenges.

Miththapala will be on the panel along with Ho Kwon Ping, Executive Chairman, Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts , Michael Sagild, Chief Operating Officer, Minor International and Sonu Shivdasani, Chairman and CEO, Six Senses Resorts and Spas. He will be presenting some of the initiatives taken by the Hotel Sigiriya in the area of energy conservation and carbon emission mitigations according to a Serendib press release.
