A fab family car VERTISTMENTS

The French and the Italians are good for two things: Food, and nippy little hatchbacks. Since I don't write about food in this column, I chose the latter. When a star is born

Lights, camera and her laptop… This is probably the best way to describe Pooja Gauthami Umarshankar, the newly popular film actress. A familiar face in Sinhalese films these days, it's interesting to find out some of the lesser known facts about her. What is most interesting is that she was born in Sri Lanka (General Hospital, to be specific) to a Sri Lankan mother and Indian father, in 1981 and this is what makes her close to home, so to speak.Pooja is the eldest in a family of two and has a younger brother and he too was born in Sri Lanka.

Unconventional thriller
Sweeney Todd is a musical thriller based on the legendary barber of Fleet Street who was plunged into the life of a serial killer and subsequently sold his victims to a bakery which in turn quite revoltingly made meat pies out of them. The 2007 Oscar winning movie follows the same plot lines as the Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's stage musical. So who would you have directing a warped story such as this one? Tim Burton's on the case.
