‘Nim Walalla’ : A tale of a widow and three daughters

The miniplay 'Nim Walalla' revolving around a widowed young mother and her three daughters is now telecast every Thursday at 9.30 pm on Rupavahini. Directed by Christy Shelton Fernando and produced by Samanmalee Hewamanna, the executive producer is Benette Ratnayake.

Nisha Monarawila, a 38 year old widow lives with her daughters Olu, Nelum and Manel after the early death of her husband while he was working as a pilot. Depending on her husband's pension, she is determined to bring up her daughters.

The eldest, Olu, a 21 year-old works as a secretary in a computer firm and her unmarried boss is 38-year-old Asela. Olu, an ambitious girl tries to win Asela's heart. One day Asela happens to go to Olu's home and there he meets Olu's mother Nisha. This reminds him of his former girlfriend at the university and he gets interested in Nisha. Whenever Asela inquires about Nisha, Olu misunderstands it as he is interested in her.

Nelum, the second daughter is a model and works for an advertising firm and she is an open-minded girl. Her boyfriend Jaliya works in a rival advertising firm. Gajanayake, Jaliya's boss is a womanizer and he is keen on getting Nelum to his company. This is mainly to use her talent in modelling and also to accomplish his ulterior motives. But Nelum does not pay heed to his schemes and Gajanayake gets angry with her.

Manel, the youngest is studying for her degree and she first opposes a proposal by Sameera, a young man from an affluent family. This is because she thinks that it would become a problem for her higher education. However, later they become lovers. Nelum's profession as a model is often subjected to humiliation by the two sisters. Meanwhile Asela brings a proposal to Nisha and Nelum approves of it. But the other two strongly object to this and the relationship between Olu and her mother Nisha is seriously affected. The mother decides to refuse Asela's invitation and this leads to his downfall. Asela gets addicted to alcohol and all his business is affected and finally he decides to leave the country.

During a competition between the two advertising companies of Gajanayake and Nelum, Gajanayake meets with an unexpected death. What the future holds for Nisha and her three daughters will be answered at the end of episode twenty eight of this emotional miniplay.

The cast comprises: Palitha Silva, Semini Iddamalgoda, Nihal Fernando, Kingsley Loos Gihan Fernando, Thanuja Dilhani, Udara Ratnayake, Gayesha Perera, Rayan Marlon Loos, Bagya Ratnayake, Chandrasoma Binduhewa and Hyacinth Wijeratne.

The screenplay is written by Kingsley Loos, Manoj Ranasinghe handled the camera, edited by Jagath Weeratunga, Dushyantha Mahindasiri wrote the musical score Nuwan Sanuranka art director and Henry Premaratne did the make-up.
