David Peiris Bajaj factory in the South

David Peiris Motor Co has purchased 110 acres of land in the Ranna area in the Hambantota district for the construction of a vehicle assembling plant which will include their Bajaj three-wheelers.

Director Marketing of David Peiris Jagath Kulathunga told The Sunday Times FT that although the formalities have been dealt with, the finer details of the project are still being discussed through a feasibility study. He revealed that the total expenditure of the project is set at Rs.750 million. The project is said to come up by around late 2009 or early 2010. According to government officials, the land stretch between Tangalle and Hambantota has been sold almost entirely to various private sector firms, in view of the increased development drive of the Southern Province.
