‘CATS’ go singing

The Musical city of Moratuwa will come alive when the Catamarans Sports Club presents 'CATS SING-ALONG' on Sunday March 30 commencing at 6.30 pm. at the Hotel Ran Mal in Gorakana, Moratuwa.

The Catamarans Sports Club, fondly known as 'Cats' in club, sports and social circles is one of the oldest and most respected clubs in Sri Lanka. Apart from its long cricketing history, it also consists of a highly musical membership, some of whom happen to be well known professionals in the field of show-biz in the country.

'Cats Sing - along' will comprise a wide repertoire of English and Sinhala 'golden oldies' along with many current hits. This two and half hour programme, musically backed ‘Super Pink & Purple’ led by 'Cats' member Lincoln de Silva will also feature special vocal spots dished out by well known musical stars along with the abundance of musical talent available within the club membership and their kinsfolk.

Well known English oldies ranging from 'You are my sunshine', 'Red River Valley,' Que Sera', 'Daisy' upto the more modern era of 'Living doll'. 'Words' and similarly Sinhala oldies and modern songs will be featured during this programme. Also being featured at this sing-along are Annesley Malewana and Sohan Weerasinghe, both celebrities in the local music field.

'Cats', now celebrating their sixtieth year have lined up an impressive programme of events for this landmark occasion and had recently organized a mega dance with great success. This sing-along also becomes a part of this celebration and is held especially to raise funds for its clubhouse infrastructure development and for the upliftment of their cricket. "THE CATS SING-ALONG" organizing committee comprises of Brian Coorey and Mahen Perera (Jt. Chairmen), Priya Peiris (Secretary), Lasla Fernando, Lincoln De Silva, Minesh Jayasekera, Sheron Fernando, Delwin Pereira, Angelo Fernando, N.L. Perera and Suranga Fernando. The other ex-office members of the committee are the club president Chitral Silva and treasurer Kanchana Wijayaratne.

All tickets for the sing-along are priced at Rs. 500/= per head and are now being sold at the Catamarans club house and at other public locations advertised in Moratuwa. A free songbook comprising the songs to be sung during the concert, along with a great assortment of many others will be given free of charge to all ticket holders at the entrance to the concert hall.

With professional artistes such as Lincoln De Silva, Brian Coorey, Priya Peiris (all sing-along veterans of 'Down Memory Lane' fame) within the fold of the 'Cats' membership, along with the galaxy of other singing stars are bound to provide a truly enthralling evenings entertainment at 'THE CATS SING ALONG' and all music lovers are invited to arrive for this concert with their family-folk and friends in great numbers to sing! sing!! & sing!!! and experience wonderful fellowship on 30th March, at hotel Ran Mal.

Well known radio and T.V. presenter Bevil Palihawadena will be the Master of Ceremonies at this Sing-Along concert. The principal sponsors for the show will be Leeds International School (Pvt) Ltd, and Overseas Student Placement Centre - two premier educational institutes in the country.
