Matara Thomians on a strong footing

St. Thomas, Matara ended the second day of their three-day 108th big match against St. Servatius Matara on a strong note when they had the latter on a tentative 58 for 6 when rain halted play in the post tea session at the Uyanwatte Stadium, Matara, yesterday.

After rains had curtailed play on the first day, the Thomians batted on in the second day till the post lunch session to be all out for 201. For the Thomians one drop batsman Kasun Attanayake top scored with a stylish half century.

St. Servatius in their turn at the crease failed against the pace trio of Shirantha, Ekanayake and Jayawardena who were responsible five of the six wickets to fall. The match will be continued at 10 a.m. today.

St. Thomas 201 (Tharaka Dushantha 24, Sudesh Sirantha 21, Kasun Attanayake 50, Dinush Madushanka 22, Gihan Indika 3 for 51, Tharindu Dharshana 4 for 31)

St. Servatius 58 for 6 at close (S. Sirantha 2 for 20, G. Jayawardena 2 for 13).
