Cops in league with rape suspect?

A Police Inspector and a Police Constable allegedly having a relationship with a rape suspect were ordered by the Dambulla Magistrte P.N.J.Ranaweera to furnish personal bail when an application was made by them for anticipatory bail.

In this case a 'B' report was filed by the Kandy Special Crimes Investigation Unit (SCIB) in the Dambulla Magistrate’s Court relating to a complaint by a fourteen year old over an alleged rape which had taken place around February 3, 2007. The main suspect is absconding after the alleged offence. The Police Inspector and the Police Constable who had served in the Dambulla Police Station during the time of the alleged incident were to be questioned by the Kandy Special Crimes Investigation Unit.

The SCIB investigators had sent messages to the duo that they should report to the SCIB to record their statements but they had not presented themselves. The main suspect has been absconding for some time now and is to be arrested.

Inspector T.B.Wijekoon is inquiring into the rape complaint on the instructions of the Chief Inspector M. Farouk and SP Gamini Seneviratne.
