FCCISL, George Steuart collaborate for professional studies

The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Sri Lanka (FCCISL) entered into a strategic agreement with George Steuart Educational Services Ltd, a member of the George Steuart and Co. Ltd. Together they will be opening an academy for professional studies in Mount Lavinia.

One of the main courses on offer will be the CIMA qualification. This is a result of a comprehensive MOU signed between the FCCISL and CIMA Sri Lanka.

Speaking at the official launch of the academy, President of the FCCISL, Nawaz Rajabdeen stressed on the role played by the corporatists in the nation, “The private sector is the engine of growth in an economy”, and that this would be another milestone in a history of achievements for the Federation.

S. Skandakumar, Group Chairman of George Steuart also pledged their support to the effort. “The concept of CSR has been there in our group since its inception,” he said.

The academy is tightly bound with human resource development and the opportunity for youth to make them globally competent. “This gives the chance for any one wants to better himself to do so with professional courses” were the words of Nihal Rangala, Director HRD and Industrial Relations. The academy will be an ideal centre for professional and technical studies.
Also present was a representative of the German Technical Corporation, a patron of the FCCISL. Franz Porsche Programme coordinator of the GTZ stressed on the importance of developing the HR of Small and Medium Enterprises to be able to compete in the international market. He spoke of the rapid changes occurring in the technical and managerial fields in the current economy and noted that ventures like this would invaluable for the SMEs. The GTZ has been working towards this goal by providing technical expertise and equipment to SMEs.

Market rates are set to be applied for the corporate clients of the academy while discounts will be considered for school leavers and any financially unstable individuals.
