Saleem and Nirushan star in drawn game

Half tons by Fahim Saleem and Ravindranath Nirushan who together put on a 119 run partnership for the second wicket helped S. Thomas’ s hold St Joseph’s to a draw in their Under 20 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Mt Lavinia yesterday.

The Thomians resuming from their overnight score of 140 for 1 went on to make 264 in reply to the Joes score of 343 for 7 declared. St Joseph’s batting the second time declared their innings with the score on 118 for 2 with Dimuth Karunaratne cracking his second half ton of the match making 73. The home team set a target of 198 ended the day on 84 for 1.

Royal hold St. Peter’s
As expected the inter-school encounter between St Peter’s and Royal concluded at Bambalaptiya yesterday ended in a tame draw. The highlights of the second days play were the half tons by Srimantha Wijeyaratne, Akshu Fernando, Shivanga Ranasuriya for St Peter’s and Sahan Hettiarachchi for Royal.

Sriyakumar unbeaten 100
Wesley sans their senior players gave the more fancied Prince of Wales side a torrid time at Campbell Park before the game ended in a draw. They had the Cambrians struggling on 90 for 7 before they recovered to make 166. Then adding salt to the wound fresher Raninda Sriyakumar made an unbeaten ton. Wesley ended the day on 205 for 4.

Peterite juniors advance to final

St Peter’s advanced to the final of the Under 13 Division Two cricket tournament with an easy first innings win over Carey in the semi final encounter played at the Ananda Sastarlaya ground in Kotte.

Trinity excel in drawn game
Trinity produced a good display of all-round cricket to take a comfortable first innings lead of 86 runs over Dharmaraja in their drawn match at Asgiriya.
Having done well to dismiss the visitors to a modest score, Trinitians Kitmal Wimalaweera, Roshan Jaleel and Mohamed Sajith made important contributions. Jaleel was quite positive in his stroke-play while Sajith caught the eye with several well timed drives.
Left arm seamer Tilina Balasuriya was the pick of the Rajans with a five wicket haul and a missed hat-trick.
