Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs Award

The Zonta Club I of Colombo announces the Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs Award Programme 2008, with applicants who are eligible to apply being the pre-university and pre-college young women between the ages 16 to 20 years. The programme offers cash awards of US$ 500 at the district level and US$ 1000 at the international level.

The programme's goal is to encourage more young women to participate in public and political life by recognizing a commitment to the volunteer sector. They should show evidence of active commitment to volunteerism, volunteer leadership, achievement and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.

Applications are available with the President, Zonta Club I of Colombo, Sumithra Fernando at the Women in Need (WIN) office at No.122, Cotta Road, Colombo 8. The closing date for applications, which should be handed over personally or sent by post to the above address, is February 20, 2008.

Service on Feb 4

A special service to mark Sri Lanka's 60th anniversary of Independence will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Pussellawa on February 4 at 9 am. Rev. Hariraj Swamidoss, the vicar of the church will conduct the service. Rev. Fr. Ivan Jayasundare, priest in charge of St. Benedict's Church, Pussellawa will be the preacher. Ven.Pussellawe Somavisudhi Thera and other religious leaders will also attend this special service.
