Pradeep and the stars sing for a cause

The musical extravaganza 'Pradeep and Friends in Concert' featuring Sirasa Super Star Pradeep Rangana with Nadini, Sanka and Gayani will be conducted on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at the BMICH at 7.00pm. This show is organized by the Ruhuna Medical School Alumni Association (RUMSAA) as a fund-raising event, in aid of Ruhuna Medical Faculty, in which Pradeep Rangana is an undergraduate student.

‘The Ruhuna Medical Faculty which celebrated its 25th anniversary recently, has around 900 medical undergraduates under its roof. Even though the resources have been upgraded over the years, more reading areas are needed for medical undergraduates to do active learning on their own’ Dr Geethani Galagoda, Secretary of RUMSAA said.

The library needs to be supplied with more reference books and journals. Ruhuna medical alumni through RUMSAA have embarked on the task of organizing this show as a fund-raising event with the intention of bridging this gap. Pradeep, Nadini, Sanka and Gayani will appear as guest artistes at the show which will be presented by Sahan Ranwala and medical student Ruvanika Senevirathne. The audience will also be entertained by veteran artiste T. M. Jayaratne.

The music for the event will be provided by Visharada Manoj Peiris and his orchestra. This evening will be made more colourful by performances of students from Rajini Selvanayagam School of Dancing and two dance performances from the Colombo Medical Faculty 'Ninnada 2007'.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, Prof Susirith Mendis and the Dean of the Ruhuna Medical Faculty, Prof P. L. Ariyananda will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour respectively. The tickets for the event are priced at Rs 4000 (two front rows), 2000, 1000 and 500 (balcony) and will be available for purchase at Sarasavi Book shop Nugegoda and Keells supermarket outlets at Borella, Nawala, Kohuwala, Pelawatta and Mt. Lavinia.
