Mowjood rescues Royal

Royal’s last year skipper Haroon Mowjood was the toast of the college supporters as he frustrated St Joseph’s with a match saving knock of 57 to rescue his side from imminent defeat in their Under 20 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Darley Road yesterday.

Royal who were struggling on 64 for 7 were rescued by Mowjood and Kansihka Boteju who put on an invaluable 71 runs for the eighth wicket to take the side out of the woods and hold on till stumps were drawn with Royal on 174 for 8.

Earlier in the day overnight batsmen Anton de Livera and Harin Silva with a 163 run stand for the third wicket to give the Josephians the edge which saw their side accumulate a formidable score of 279 from their overnight score of 137 for 2 in reply to Royal’s 183.

Udara guides Ananda
A knock of 102 with 14 boundaries by Udara Peiris took Ananda to safety against S. Thomas’ on the second day’s play at Mt Lavinia. After being bundled out for a lowly 99 in the first innings Udara’s knock saw them reach 256 for 7 in their second essay before declaring after the Thomains had declared on their overnight score of 187 for 9.

Gayashan slams 124
A 131 ball knock of 124 with 17 boundaries and three sixes by Gayashan Weerasekera and a 61 by Isuru Udana helped DSS make a bold reply of 310 to Nalanda’s 251 in their inter-school match played at Wijerama Mawatha which ended in a draw.
