LAWASIA conference in Colombo

President Mahinda Rajapaksa will address the opening ceremony of the three-day LAWASIA conference on information and communications technology from January 21 to 23 in Colombo. Chief Justice and chief guest Sarath N. Silva will deliver the keynote address at the conference which will be held at the TransAsia hotel.

On the second day of the conference, Mah Weng Kwai and M. Javed Mansoor will speak on 'building bridges within LAWASIA’, while Justice Saleem Marsoof will deal with 'some pertinent issues concerning electronic commerce’. Dr. Gordon Hughes will present a paper on 'privacy, data protection and security information for developing countries' while Sunil Abeyratne will speak on 'dispute resolution and regional cooperation on IT disputes’.

The last speaker on day two, Dr. Rani Jayamaha, will present a paper on Impact of IT on the banking sector. On day three, Jayantha Fernando will speak on 'recent legislation relating to IT in Sri Lanka’, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya on 'Telecom regulations from an investment perspective’, Malathi Dias on 'employment issues in the electronic era', K. Kanagiswaran, P.C., on 'software and intellectual property', Dr. Tissa Hemaratne on 'a common agenda for LAWASIA countries' and S. Thurairajah on 'a road map for policy’. Glenn Fergusan will make the closing remarks.
