Murali to be feted by MPs

Parliamentarians will felicitate cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan for his world record in international Test cricket at a function to be held in Parliament on Thursday.

UNP MP Gamini Jayawickrema Perera was the first to propose to the Speaker to felicitate the cricketer while JVP MP Wimal Weerawansa who made a special statement in Parliament in December on the achievements of the record taking cricketer also proposed that Muralithran be feted by Parliament for his accomplishments. The felicitation event will be held at the Parliamentary Complex on January 10 at 12 noon.

Muralitharan is the highest wicket taker in international Test Cricket. During the first Test against England at Kandy on December 3 last year he took his record breaking 709th Test wicket in his 116th Test.
