Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel recently entered into a ground breaking strategic partnership with Microsoft Sri Lanka by signing an Enterprise Agreement and adopting the global software giant's most preferred offering for corporate customers.

Through this long-term partnership Mobitel will gain a significant competitive advantage to stay ahead in the highly competitive telecommunication industry, which will support the company’s ever expanding business objectives.

Mobitel will have access to a host of Microsoft’s innovative and up-to-date software products and solutions, including Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 to enhance personal productivity, Windows Server 2008 for Directory Services and Infrastructure security together with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for improved Messaging and Collaboration capabilities. In addition, by deploying Microsoft’s System Management Server 2007, Mobitel will be equipped to manage their software and hardware assets, improve security and patch management, as well as increase productivity by using automated software deployment technologies, the company said.

It will also provide Mobitel’s staff members with home use rights for Microsoft Office tools allowing them access to the latest technologies including software tools, technical support, employee training via e-learning and updates on the latest technological developments from the comfort of their homes.

Suren Amarasekera, CEO of Mobitel said, “We have been using and also evaluated a variety of offerings from a host of solutions providers worldwide over a long period of time, but ultimately decided to partner with Microsoft because of their current product portfolio as well as the future solutions roadmap.”

Microsoft’s Country Manager for Sri Lanka Sriyan de Silva Wijeyeratne said, “Mobitel has proved itself to be a leader not only in the telecommunication industry but also in the business landscape of Sri Lanka by becoming a responsible and license-compliant organisation. Microsoft has invested billions of dollars on research and development to ensure that our platforms are enterprise ready both in terms of scalability, reliability and security.”
