Global Compact Sri Lanka Network, CIMA launches Sustainability Awards

The first Global Compact Sri Lanka Network –CIMA sustainability Awards are to be presented to companies which demonstrate best practices in sustainability in Sri Lanka.

The awards, the first of its kind globally, are intended to recognize companies with a genuine commitment to triple bottom line management by upholding the United Nations Global compact 10 principles.

The award presentation ceremony will be held in August next year. The Global Compact Sri Lanka Net work in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Sri Lanka Division has embarked on this programme to recognize and highlight best practices in corporate sustainability in Sri Lanka, according to Ravi Fernando, head of the Global Compact Sri Lanka Network, during a recent launch of the new awards scheme.

Fernando said their aim is to bring in corporate responsibility in business strategy so that social, environmental and economic sustainability will be given equal priority in every business decision. Neil Buhne, UN Resident Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative who was the chief guest at the launch of the awards, emphasized the need to focus attention on sustainable development.
