Damith and Venura to clash in quarters

Venura Fernando of NDB will meet Damith Fernando of DFCC in one quarter-final after the completion of first round matches in Division Three singles at the annual Mercantile Tennis Tournament conducted at the SLTA courts, Greenpath, yesterday.

In the remaining quarter finals D.N.Samaranayake of NDB will be up against Nilam Jayasinghe of NDB while Muram Fernandesz of NDB will take on Gihan Jayatilleke of NDB. In the last quarter-final Pandula Wijesundara of DFCC will have to await the winner of the match between Amodha Abeyratne of DFCC and Lasantha Fernando of NDB

In the qualifying matches Pandula Wijesundara of DFCC beat HDJ Udayanga of Sam 6-2 and 6-1, Damith Fernando of DFCC received a walkover from Ranjidera Peiris of NDB.

Venura Fernando of NDB overcame Sunil Perera of NDB and Romesh De Mel of DFCC 6-4 and 7-5 and 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 respectively.
D.N. Samaranayake of NDB beat Jeevan Arulamplam of NDB 6-4 and 6-0.

Earlier in the day Kushal Wijewickrema of Mas Intimates qualified to meet Sohan Patrick in the Division One singles finals.

In the semi finals Kushal Wijewickrema of Mas Intimates overcame HSBC’s Asiri Iddamalgoda 6-0, 7-5. Wijewickrema had an easy passage in the first set. However he had to huff and puff in the second set. In the other semi final Sohan Patrick received a walk over from Nihal Welikala of NDB.

The singles semi final line up in the Division two is Gavin Perera of HSBC vs Viboda Chandrasekera of DFCC bank while in the other semi final D L P Gunatilleke of Sampath Bank will take on Sunil Wijeyaratne of HSBC.

In one of the over 35 singles games Gavin Perera of HSBC had the better of Nalin Lokuge from Sampath Bank 6-0 and 6-1. In an over 45 singles match Ravi Subaramanium of Aitken Spence beat Sunil Wijeyaratne of HSBC 6-0 and 6-0.
