Heavy clashes in Mannar, 12 killed

Three soldiers and nine LTTE cadres were killed and more than 50 injured in heavy clashes that erupted between the two sides at Adampan in Mannar yesterday morning.

Defence sources confirming the incident said 47 Tigers were wounded in the confrontation while ten soldiers sustained injuries. They said many LTTE bunkers were also destroyed by the troops who were able to occupy the area.

Another six LTTE cadres were reported killed when they attempted to infiltrate the Muhamalai Forward Defence Line (FDL) last morning. The Defence Ministry said pre-emptive strikes were continuing in the area.
