Encroachers occupy LRC land

More than 100 families have encroached on land belonging to the Land Reforms Commission (LRC) located close to the Peradeniya University. The land encroached is known as Spring Hill estate.

The encroachers are people from Weligiriya and adjacent places occupying a pinus cultivation of the Forest Conservation Department. The encroachers while causing harm to the pinus cultivation have also disturbed the water supply system that provides water to the University.

An inspection was carried out by the University Registrar Ranjith Alwis with his security staff and representations have been made to the Government Agent Gotabhaya Jayaratne. The Peradeniya police have also been informed of the encroachment.
