Senok group gets into aviation

The Senok Trade Group, heavily into the automobile business, is planning to start an airline, company and aviation industry officials, said.

“The Senok team had a meeting with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials on Thursday to discuss the details pertaining to the new venture,” a CAA source told The Sunday Times FT.

He said the CAA had requested the company to submit their business plans.

A spokesman for the company confirmed that Senok is planning an aviation company – initially for local transport - which may be named as Senok Aviation Ltd.

“We have been running our travel company since 1979 and we thought that an airline will complement our business.

The airline will be a partnership with a foreign airline,” he said, adding that the investment amounts are not finalised as yet.

He said that while the CAA had wanted Senok to start with a cargo plane, the company was more interested in passenger craft.

“We will start with two helicopters and then move to a fixed wing airline.

It will take about six months to start once the documentation has been submitted and licence granted by the CAA,” he said.
The company has 14 businesses ranging from travel to haulage and from mining to hydropower.
