Embryo transfer produces another goat

The second embryo transfer goat kid named ‘Peradeniya Kumari 2’ was born in the early hours of Friday Though the mother was only carrying the cells for ‘Peradeniya Kumari 2’ , yet she was looking after the baby as one of her own. The embryo biotechnology research team of the Peradeniya University claimed it had produced the second kid through embryo transfer technology.

The research team leader Dr. Basil Alexander said the initial experiments on embryo production and transfer in Sri Lanka had resulted in a massive success. He said that the new born goat was in good health and fully active.

She was born at the Animal Hospital of the Peradeniya University. The research team comprised of Dr. Basil Alexander, Dr. Dammika Perera, Dr. L.N.A. de Silva and Dr. P.G.A. Pushpakumara.
