“Weten Eha”, a tale of neighbours

"Weten Eha" The latest teldrama of veteran teledrama producer Ananda Abeynayake will be telecast on Derana on Sundays at 9.00pm. Directed by Roshan Kuruppu this 25 episode teledrama will start on November18.

Life is optimistic to one while pessimistic to another. It's life in turmoil. Arising out of these interesting moments, episodes fit for dramas are inevitable. The two households on either side of the divide create dramatic scenes. The members of the two middle class families separated only by a fence, at times, bring out the demands and social pressures of life while in certain instances produce rib tickling humor.

On one side of the fence lives Lenagala with his wife and three daughters. Employed as a clerical hand, in a government office, Lenagala leads a tormented life among many obstacles and difficulties but, seems to be optimistic in his views, and has visions of grandeur moments. His wife, Nanda had conducted a pre school in the recent past but gives it up to dedicate her household duties. The eldest works as a nurse while Malathie who is the second in the family, tries music as a mode of living. The youngest daughter Mihiri is a student at the University.

His neighbour Jayawardene is a retired while his wife is Kalyani a housewife, indeed is very industrious. They have two sons and a daughter. The elder son is a shrewd businessman engaged in buying and selling. Daughter Thilini works as an announcer in an FM Channel. The youngest son Amal, is a university student who holds open views.

The members of the two families, during the seven days of the week, more often than not, are in conflict even on matters of a trivial nature. These incidents, though trivial, end in long drawn quarrels. Amidst the traumatic incidents, the two husbands are in a very close relationship with each other, keeping the association as a top secret, from the two households. In the presence of the members of the two families, they behave as two venomous cobras. However, the two wives appear to be carrying forward an enmity coming down from their past existences.

Making the environment of the two families as centre stage and making good use of the intimacy among one another, together with the characters ever in conflict, an interesting drama is being unfolded to be viewed and appreciated, in several episodes linked together.
