Steuart Ritchie’s splendid performance at Ridgeways

Steuart Ritchie has been in comforting form in recent months and last Saturday he stretched into a star performance with a splendid 5 under par nett 66 and also snatched the lowest gross score 68 for the day. He received a tight affectionate embrace from his pretty petite wife Heather and also collected a good looking medal for his career collection. Sheron Fernando came behind with a well complied nett 70.

Manjula strikes good
In the “B” Division 11 handicapper Manjula Chandrasoma was in striking form with a superbly put together nett 64. He was also in the limelight with the best gross score in his Division. A glutton for celebrating he look the 19th at the Guv’nors by storm with a pack of his closest and the medal lacing his neck. A.H. Sherrifdeen came pretty good with a well calculated round of nett 69. He appeared quite pleased with the whole universe beaming all afternoon having ended in 2nd place.

Chaos
Surprising there were more in the queue of the production line at the Confetti factory than those banging centuries. Hemal Fernando, Priya Samarasinghe and Ken Sellayah cracked scintillating tons while Mihindu Chandrasoma,, Ivor Maharoof and T. Akberally were identified with pretty packs of confetti.

“C” Division
Glen Mathew piled up a praiseworthy nett 69 to take the “C” Medal with immense glee. Yemindra Udalagama walked behind him with a pleasing nett 71. Seventy six players vied for positions in this Division which is the preserve of comparatively new players of which twenty four were raw rookies. Four dozen rushed the scene to pick up centuries with Vijay Malalasekera making a colourful debut. A. Dajendra scored the highest in his swashbuckling century maybe he peppered the roof tops of shanty town on his extravagant journey to expend 125 strokes. Raju Chandiram and Shiran Manakulasuriya competed strongly for the best designed pack of confetti. By amicable arrangement a dead heat or tie was arranged. Raju goes for lessons once a day everyday and Shiran is flirting with the idea of selling his implements and tools. Both will come back to the game with greater determination to make good and that exactly is what the game is all about. Capt. A.V. Rajendra is joining them with a will to improve performance. Good Luck to the enterprising trio.

Senior Joe Boy
Joe Perera was back on the scene this time with a sparkling nett 64. For a man of his age Joe Boy strikes a helluva great ball and he has absolutely no nerves on the putting green. Good on you Senior Joe. Ranjit Thabrew came second nett 73 and walked Joe to the 19th for a shot or two.

Ripe and well preserved Sohli Captain, not yet over the hill, plays a great game and his 12 handicap is absolutely no strain on him. In grand masterly style he coaxed an excellent 2 under par nett 69 to collect the Masters handsome medal and incessant aplause.

Riddled with enthusiasm and a burning desire to improve Nihal “Swastika” Ranasinghe did himself proud with a fine one under par nett 70. Bloated with delight his big brag was that he had a regulation 4 on the 1st hole. Ranasinghe was entertaining well wishers at a Chinese Chow dinner at the Sheraton that night celebrating a performance he relished.

The course
Reliable reports have it that many of the greens are hopeless and despite repeated relaying and nursing the players are grumbling.
