Malani brings ‘Surangana Duwa’

Veteran actress Malani Fonseka plays directorial role in 'Surangana Duwa' the latest teledrama to be screened at 9.00 pm belt on Thursday on Swarnavahini.

Produced by Leelani Perera it stars Ravindra Randeniya, Roshan Pilipaitiya, Sachini Ayendra, Chandika Nanayakkara, Srimal Wedisinghe, Teddy Widyalankara, Samanthi Lanarolle, Lakshman Fernando, Ramesh Ekanayake, Wimal Alahakone, Renuka Perera, Achala Walpola, Natasha Magkun, Apsara Wijeywardena and Mike Cook. Professor Surendra Devendra (Ravindra Randeniya) is experimenting on nuclear weapons and making new inventions.

He marries Shanthini (Malani Fonseka) on a love affair, and his parents object this marriage. Prof. Devendra is against the anti-human activities and this makes him a target of an underworld group. The only option for him is to leave the country and his parents encourage him. He secretly leaves the country and it is without the knowledge of Shanthini too. But Devendra is not aware that Shanthini is pregnant by him. In England, he gets a job in a nuclear weapons factory. Objecting to mass human destruction weapons produced there, Devendra is not happy about his job. But he cannot leave as he has no other option.

In the meantime Devendra loses contact with Shanthini and this is as a result of his parents who hide his whereabouts from their daughter-in-law. And Devendra also informed that Shanthini is murdered by the underworld gang. Shanthini gives birth to a girl, Disala (Sachinin Ayendra) and brings her up.

Meanwhile Devendra does not believe Shanthini's death and he thinks that he would one day will meet her. He shares this with Vihanga (Chandika Nanayakkara), his roommate, a medical practitioner in England. And by now, Devendra who knows most of the secrets in the nuclear institute is prohibited to leave his job. And he is threatened with death. Realising that Devendra's plans to quit the job, he is brainwashed by force. This erases his memory including Shanthini.

By this time Disala, Shanthini's daughter, a grown up girl gets married to Gagana. He too gets a job in England and takes his wife and the mother-in-law Shanthini with him. On her coming to England, Shanthini starts her search for Devendra. But Disala tells that it is useless to have her father who did not care to look after them. Making things worse, Disala and her husband Gagana get separated. And it was at this stage that the mother and daughter meet Vihanga, Devendra's roommate. And Vihanga and Disala becomes close friends. But Devendra refuses to identify his wife or daughter. What would be the fate of Shanthini and Disala? Will Devendra be able to know who he is? And what happens to Gagana and Disala's marriage?

Camera handled by Saman Sigera, art director Asanga Neelawathura, make up by Hemantha Gamage and Malani is assisted in direction by Sanjeewa Perera (England) and Anura Dayanjith (Sri Lanka). Co-produced by Sriyani Samaratunge, music in 'Surangana Duwa' is handled by Sarath Wickrema and playback singing done by Visharadha Deepika Priyadarshani Peiries and Ravindra Randeniya.
