Grand Hotel bags prestigious SAGA Award

Grand Hotel, Nuwara Eliya, one of the prime colonial hotels established in 1981 received an Award for Food for the year 2005 and 2006 from one of the leading up market Tour Operators from the United Kingdom, SAGA Holidays. SAGA Holidays has been operating to Sri Lanka since 1996 and had grown by expanding their programme, promoting Sri Lanka from sun and sand to nature, adventure and wild life Holidays. A niche market tour operator, SAGA Holidays specializes in handling Senior Citizens and has a repeat client base of over 800,000 who travel with them Worldwide.

This Appreciation Award was awarded on Customer feedback for consistency and standards maintained on food quality, presentation, variety, hygiene, food temperatures and service. The scoring system ranges from 1.00 to 4.00. 1.00 being excellent and 4.00 being poor. The aim of SAGA is to achieve a rate below 1.70 or lower in all aspects and this is chosen from over 1200 Hotels worldwide.

The Resident Manager, Raju N. Veerasingham said that in keeping with the organizational policy, the hotel's team of Chefs are being constantly trained and the product had been constantly upgraded to meet the demanding trends, even at times when tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka are very low. Raju N. Veerasingham also stated that the Hotel had upgraded its entrance, the lounges, the coffee shop and main restaurant.

This prestigious award known as the One Rosette "Good Food" Award will be presented at a special function in conjunction with World Travel Mart Travel Fair to be held in London. The Grand Hotel Board of Directors consists of Deshabandu George Ondaatjie - Chairman, Mr. Gerard Ondaatjie - Managing Director, Mrs. Angeline Ondaatjie, Mr. Travice Ondaatjei, Mr.Daya Perera, & Mr.J.H.P. Ratnayake.

The Corporate Management Team consists of Mr. Raju N Veerasingham - Resident Manager, Mr. M.I. Shahabeen - Group Financial Controller, Mr. Manil Galagoda - Group Engineer, Mr. Ravi Fernando, Group Accountant. Mr. A.R. Nazeem Mohamed - Asst Manager/Chief Accountant, Mr. N.M.Khalid - Executive Chef, Mr. K.G. Keerthisinghe - F & B Manager, Mr. R. Muthuranesh, Front Office Manager, Mr. S.D. Silva - Executive House Keeper Mr. S. Anbalagan - Maintenance Executive.
