Danushi wins Peiris Cup

Sri Lanka led India by one stroke on the opening day of the 120th Sri Lanka Golf Open that got underway at the Ridgeways, yesterday.

For Sri Lanka J. Dias (82) and N. Jayatilleke (87) saw them ending up with a score of 169 while the two Indians M. Atwal(91) and N. Singh (79) saw them finishing the day one stroke behind Sri Lanka at 170.

In the Ladies Championship Danushi Senadhira won the Leonard Peiris Cup given for the Best Gross First Round with a gross score 79 while Dilini de Zoysa who finished a nett score of 70 took away the Firestone/Jepson award for Best Nett first Round score.

Today’s play will be the Pin Fernando Trophy where the best aggregate nett scorers will meet each other meanwhile the battle for the Lilamini Weeraratne Trophy will be between the gross aggregate scorers of the previous rounds.

However there was one speculation looming as it would only be tomorrow that Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal will be confirming their participation in the tournament.
