Machiko Rahim sets up record in heats

Machiko Rahim from Singapore, representing Otter AC, set up a record in the Girls Under 14, 100 meters freestyle heats in the morning session when bright weather prevailed at the National and Junior Swimming and Diving Championships continued for the second successive day at the Sugathadasa Swimming Complex yesterday.

Suhaila Perera of St. Bridget’s was second while Nurani Samindu Karumama of St. Joseph’s Balika Vidyalaya was placed third. Heshan Unamboowe of Trinity was unfortunate to miss a record in the men’s 100 meters freestyle as the event was held in the rain during the afternoon session. Unamboowe clocked 54.82 seconds thus missing the record by .04 secs.

Under 14 boys 400 M: Thavishka Shanil Guruge (Ananda); Girls Under 14 400M freestyle: Suhaila Perera (St. Bridget’s); Women’s 400 M freestyle: Imara Fahim (Rainbow AC); Women’s 200 M breaststroke: Mineka Karunaratne (Asian IS); Men’s 200 M breaststroke: Chanika Malimbada (Ananda); Boys Under 14 100 M freestyle: W.K.S. Wickremaarachchi (Panadura AC); Men’s 100 M freestyle: Heshan Unamboowe (Trinity); Women’s 100 M freestyle: Hansani Weerathunga (Mahamaya)’ Men’s 50 M backstroke: Heshan Unamboowe (Trinity).
