Villagers left high and dry

The villagers of Galgedihena in the Kundasale Pradeshiya Sabha area are faced with the problem of finding clean drinking water.
Even though some villagers get their drinking water from the Hulu Ganga, these villagers are unable to do so as they live on a higher elevation.

N.W.B.Ariyawathie who has lived in this village for 30 years said that drinking water had to be fetched from the only well in the area which is about one kilometre away. “We have no clean water and we have written to the President as well about this,” she said.

Another villager M.A. Razeek said during election time, different political parties make promises to provide clean drinking water to the village but no action has been taken.

Kundasale PS member Dhammika Perera said that a great effort is being made to provide water to this village.“We need to construct a tank on top of the mountain to provide water to this village. The problem has been identified by the authorities but there is difficulty in implementing the project,” he said.
