Kandy attracts ‘Across Sri Lanka Adventure Race’

An extraordinary event was just concluded in Sri Lanka, where a group of French Nationals, decided to cross the Island by trekking, running, mountain. biking, kayaking and swimming. Kandy District became the centre point in their journey to to Down Sounth of Sri Lanka, which covered a 1000kilometres.

Lasting 6-nights and 7-days, the race commenced from the Airport to conclude at Yala, a 1000Km of multi adventure racing across mountain and rugged countryside, against the weather and against each other. Of the15 participants, six were eliminated. As a prelude to the ironman races, the group found conditions in Sri Lanka to be the same, if not harder with ever changing climate and vegetation.

Their local partner Club Adventure was their preferred choice, with adventure specialist Marlon Saldin personally overseeing the entire project. All professional equipment was provided with the participants travelling with only their personal gear. The group took the route from Bandaranaike International Airport to Yala via Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Bandarawela and Ella to Yala.

The major attraction of the tour was the Central region and the participants, were top adventure people from the up market travellers from Europe.‘Very well conduced on a global scale’, "Very good, according to our expectations and even better" , "Very good security and safety measures" , "The best race series we've ever had" , "Great combination of sport and adventure", are only some of the statements documented, by the race organizers and participants.

The comments undoubtedly refer to a successfull conclusion of an adventure race.‘Needless to say to arrange a race of this magnitude, we acknowledge the support received by the Ministry of Tourism, Sri Lanka Tourism, Ministry of Defense and the Sri Lanka Police’ said Marlon Saldin
