Open Day by CIMA Kandy

By L.B. Senaratne

It was an Open Day at Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) for the benefit of students of advanced and other level students of schools. Around 13 schools in the Kandy District gathered at Queen's Hotel Ballroom with around 20 tutors to attend the Open Day. There were in all around 450 students apart from school leavers.

The objective of the programme was to provide information to these participants on their options available for professional development, at post Advanced Level while aiding them in acquiring skills required for greater employability.

CIMA officials said the programme was endorsed by the Provincial Education Department with its Additional Director of Education G.G. Jayasinghe being the Guest of Honour. He advised students to make the maximum use of the valuable opportunity extended to them by CIMA. He was also happy that CIMA has now opened an office in Kandy to support the people in the district.

Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Asha Institute of Management, Sarath Fernando conducted a session on transferable skills required by prospective job seekers.

CIMA no longer requires the Ordinary Level or the Advanced Level as the minimum entry requirements. The minimum entry requirement is the Certificate in Business Accounting. According to the Manager of CIMA’s Kandy Office Ms. Roshini Wirasinghe, no qualification is required to register for the Certificate in Business Accounting except that a candidate must be at least 16 years of age.
