The Peradeniya University Veterinary Faculty’s experiment to breed a variety of goat not found in this country has met with apparent success.

The first of its kind named ‘Peradeniya Kumari’ was born seven months ago through an embryo transfer. ‘Peradeniya Kumari’ has now attained puberty and is ready for mating.

The second strain which has been ‘embryo’ transferred to another surrogate mother (with leg bent in photograph) is from Israel’s Shannan and Jamnath Paree strains. The embryo transfer was the first in the country with the research aspect in the hands of Dr.Basil Alexander and Dr.Dammika Perera
