Ampara Hospital gains local, international recognition

Ampara General Hospital which is renowned for being the best government hospital in the island has been presented with the gold award for the large scale service sector at the National Productivity and National Quality Awards 2006 ceremony held in Colombo last week. A spokesperson of the Director General of Health Services office told The Sunday Times FT that this hospital is far better than the Colombo General hospital in all aspects including health facilities cleanliness and courteous service of the hospital staff and it is following the Japanese 5S concept to the letter. She added that the hospital received the 5S quality award two years ago and it is situated in a calm and beautiful environment. The Ampara hospital was selected as the best hospital in the Asia Pacific Region by the Asia Pacific Quality Organization for 2007, Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr. P.K.L.C Jayasinghe said. He added that patients come from across the district, even from Batticaloa and Trincomalee districts to receive what is considered the best public healthcare. The hospital was extremely clean and well organized and it is considered as a model hospital in the island, he said.
